Could healthcare start the next civil war?

Whether or not there will be a new Healthcare plan in America has become a soaring debate for its citizens. Millions of articles and stories have flourished in the media with countless words, but none include a logical reason why the debate isn’t settled yet. Healthcare has caused a lot of controversial issues to surface on the grounds of this great nation. Supporters of the plan have a variety of reasons why they love the bill, while individuals who are repealing it prefer there be none at all. Both of these groups make their arguments clear, but only one will appeal to the Supreme Court when the time comes. The supporters of the bill are mainly democrats that want the best for the people, while their opponents are all pretty much republicans that are in favor of helping businesses instead of lives. Democrats as well as Republicans are fighting to get all the votes they can to help their respective sides. When this huge American debate finally comes to an end, the healthcare plan will be passed with a slight compromise from each group due to America choosing its people over businesses.
Bi-Partisanship has been a huge problem in today’s government. Trying to get Democrats and Republicans to work together instead of against one another is very challenging. Instead of wanting to work together, these specific groups are continuing to split further apart. There hasn’t been any compromise when it comes to the healthcare plan, particularly when it comes to pre-existing medical conditions. Democrats are trying to get the Republicans to realize in America people should be first, then businesses. Because of this, many supporters (Democrats) of the healthcare plan are going out of their way to get voters on their side. They are making every attempt to keep people first and not last. Democrats are against the insurance companies when it comes to this matter, while republicans are in support of keeping insurance companies happy. The healthcare plan is a bill for American people of all sizes, color, and ethnicity. It doesn’t matter if a person’s age ranges from one to ninety-nine, they will still be allowed to get insurance, even if they have a pre-existing medical condition or not. This type of practice makes a person proud to be an American, while the insurance companies are becoming more of a disgrace to American society. These companies are not showing what it means to be an American, but they are clearly showing what it is like to be a greedy business. Insurance companies are wanting to pocket money by keeping healthy people insured, so they want have to spend money on individuals that have a history of illness and Republicans don’t have a problem with it. Not only does the Healthcare plan acknowledge pre-existing medical conditions, but it also recognizes individuals that can’t afford healthcare.
Using a single-payer healthcare system has been a huge debate between Democrats and Republicans. This has become one none stop argument. The single-payer system involves financing from one insurance source. In this type of system, universal medical care for an estimated group of people is financed through one financial pool, which is similar to Canada’s as well as France’s system. Both of these systems are ranked very high compared to the United States. The single-payer system would guarantee medical treatment to everyone regardless of his or her age, financial situation, or job history. Many Democrats are in support of the single-payer system, agreeing with basically every aspect of it. They are starting to win the votes of some Republicans too. Relating to France, Jack Bernard, a former chairman of Jasper County Commissions and the Jasper County Republican Party stated, “It is high time we put the country ahead of ourselves and establish a single-payer system.” Bernard also believes that medical coverage will be better than it is now if the single-pay system is put into effect (Lambert). While some Republicans agree with the single-payer system, most disagree with it. Several Republicans oppose universal health care and its benefits. Republicans also known as the critics of this system bring about some interesting pointers though. First, they are definitely against every citizen paying taxes for healthcare services that the government provides to men, women, and children. Second, they believe that the system is devilish. They believe it goes against American values; therefore their support will never be an option. Trying to pass the healthcare plan with the single-payer system included will definitely be a problem. There are many pros and cons to it, but this seems to be one of the biggest.
The purchasing requirement included in the healthcare plan is by far a very argumentative issue. Democrats have been known to go out their way for what they want and they have done just that lately. Democrats are avoiding the term “tax” and are replacing it with the word “penalty”. President Obama along with his supporters wants every American to purchase healthcare insurance. There would be no citizen without medical coverage. Republicans don’t agree with this concept due to their sociological understandings. External processes are leading them believe that Obama’s healthcare plan is a lot like socialism. Socializing healthcare would throw out what America really stands for right? Well, that depends on who determines what socialism is. Republicans are criticizing this part of the healthcare plan without an exact definition of what socialism is. Socialism or a socialist society can be described in a few words, equal power relations. This would make every person in America equal to each other. Making it a requirement to purchase medical insurance would not make America a socialist society. This directly relates back to the lives over businesses concept. Republicans need to put people first, before they start worrying about socialism.
Republicans and Democrats both need to come to terms on healthcare issues. Republicans need to realize that individuals are in need instead of being interested in businesses. America is losing a lot of its values due to the lack of bi-partisanship and the lack of compromise between the two major governmental parties. It is causing American’s to separate into two, almost similar to the late civil war. Getting these problems solved is imperative in our nation, but will it ever be concluded? Neither supporters nor critics have yet to find out, only time will tell the verdict of healthcare in America.
